When Youth Take Charge of Patna’s Streets for a Cleaner, Inclusive Future

Building public demand for inclusive and climate-responsive transport systems

In Patna, the streets we walk and cycle shape the air we breathe, the spaces we share, and the rhythm of city life.

For many, however, these streets are a struggle.

Traffic congestion, pollution, unsafe crossings, and limited transport options turn daily commutes into a challenge.

This reality inspired a youth-centered engagement under the Harit Safar initiative.

On 30 December 2025, Veer Kunwar Singh Park became a hub of creativity.

Around 60 students from the College of Commerce, Arts, and Science gathered to explore sessions based on the theme  “Mera Shehar aur Sapno Ka Shehar.”

Poster-making, storytelling, games, and street theatre highlighted how everyday travel choices influence air quality, health, and urban sustainability.

Students began with a visual art session, depicting clean air, reduced pollution, electric mobility, and safer streets. Their work sparked conversations connecting personal experiences with wider environmental challenges.

Storytelling sessions brought journeys affected by traffic jams, unsafe pathways, and pollution vividly to life.

An interactive game divided students into three groups of six. Guided by three questions, each group identified key causes such as vehicle emissions, construction dust, and waste burning. They suggested practical solutions while strengthening teamwork, problem-solving, and understanding of local challenges.

The day ended with a student-led street theatre performance, dramatizing excessive private vehicle use, pedestrian safety, and inclusive mobility.

A shared pledge reinforced their dedication to cleaner air and smarter movement.

This was more than an activity.

It was just a beginning towards a safe and inclusive future.

Through creativity, dialogue, and small actions, these young changemakers are transforming everyday streets into spaces that are cleaner, safer, and welcoming to all.
