Campus Meet

On September 6, 2024, the Harit Safar campaign, organised by The Climate Agenda, held a campus meet at Shri Arvind Mahila College, Patna, in collaboration with the Geography Department. The event focused on making urban transportation cleaner and more inclusive.

The role of youth and students in ensuring a carbon-free transportation system and equal transport facilities for all in Patna was a key theme discussed during the event. Manish Sinha, representing The Climate Agenda, highlighted the importance of youth involvement in promoting sustainable transportation. He emphasised that women and marginalised communities are disproportionately affected by weak and unsafe public transport systems, with nearly 56% of girls facing harassment in public transport.

Professor and Principal Sadhana Tripathi encouraged students to adopt sustainable transportation options, such as walking and cycling, and emphasised the need for separate tracks for pedestrians and cyclists in Patna city. This would allow the general public to see their role in reducing pollution and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Saniya Anwar, head of the Harit Safar campaign, urged students to take initiatives for a cleaner and more inclusive transport system. She encouraged them to write letters or emails to their municipal corporation and transport ministry, requesting them to transition the city’s transport system to electric-based solutions, set up solar-powered vehicle charging stations, and assess the need for buses on all routes.

The program was coordinated, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Angad Yadav. The seminar was attended by Prof. (Dr.) & Proctor Baliyaji Maurya, Prof. & Dr. Vimi Singh, Examination Controller Mrs. Geeta Kumari, Prof. (Dr.) Prabha Mishra, Dr. Anumala, Dr. Gopal Kumar, Assistant Professor Aditya Bhardawaj, Pooja Kumari, Archana and Sunil Bharti along with hundreds of students.

The Harit Safar campaign aims to make urban transport systems in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh cleaner and more inclusive. By engaging with students and encouraging them to take action, the campaign hopes to inspire a new generation of change-makers committed to sustainability.
