Open Mic on Climate Action at Chet Singh Ghat Brings Together Youth, Culture, and Climate Action
As part of the Harit Safar initiative, we hosted a Climate Open Mic at the iconic Chet Singh Ghat, Varanasi, on 16 April 2026 – bringing together youth, culture, and climate dialogue in one vibrant evening.
The event drew approximately 200+ participants and audience members, including students from BHU, VKM, MGKVP, and DMPG, alongside tourists and local residents. Together, they created an inclusive, energetic space for creative expression centred around environmental awareness and sustainability.
Performances, Poetry & Purpose Participants took the stage with poetry, storytelling, spoken word, and music – all woven around themes of climate action and environmental responsibility. Handmade posters and banners crafted by participants added a personal, grassroots touch to the gathering.
Celebrating Cultural Diversity A standout feature of the evening was its rich cultural representation. A Telugu song and a traditional Bihu performance by BHU students drew appreciation from the audience, beautifully illustrating the connection between cultural heritage and environmental consciousness.
A Message That Resonated Ms. Ekta, Director of Programs, addressed the gathering and underscored the importance of climate literacy among young people – encouraging each participant to adopt small but meaningful actions in their daily lives for environmental protection.
Looking Ahead The event successfully fostered dialogue, creativity, and a sense of collective responsibility. It also strengthened collaboration among students and organisations, laying the groundwork for future community-driven climate initiatives, awareness campaigns, and sustainable mobility conversations across Varanasi.
This Open Mic is part of our ongoing efforts under Harit Safar to engage communities through culture, conversation, and climate action.
